At the SGE/Western Health Excellence awards last night, Copperfield College’s Senior VCAL students and their mentors from Sunshine Hospital were awarded the 2014 Community Engagement Award. This year, Year 12 VCAL students worked on community projects producing items to be used in the dementia unit’s garden. Students worked diligently with their mentors scoping ideas, managing the projects and completing the following items; Mediterranean mosaics, Edna Walling themed seats and garden beds, picket fences and archways.

The award recognised the contribution that has been made in the areas of education, community awareness and engagement. Mr Simpson and Ms Chiodo were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the students from 2G1, 2P1, 2Y1 and their PDS teachers Ms. Alessio and Mrs Maric. Jo and Carol from Sunshine Hospital joined them on stage.

2015 Senior VCAL students will be continuing the partnership with Sunshine Hospital and we look forward to another great year of community projects.
